Winter Trends Update

Amidst a chilly January afternoon, you’ll bound to catch a  cool, crisp glaze of frigid air on your way home from work or school.  The sudden transition into a cold, wet, winter weather and shorter, darker days can understandably lead to sulky attitudes,  seasonal depression, and frustrating fashion. During winter, it can feel as if your wardrobe has shrunk, your choices are limited and your motivation is lack thereof.

During the Winter season, we tend to neglect the thought of appearing stylish. Our concerns gravitate towards keeping warm and maintaining a “comfy cozy” theme. Choosing an ideal winter outfit is difficult in and of its itself, but trying to look stylish while doing so, is an entirely separate challenge.  Recently, I've found myself facing this exact dilemma.
It was a  gloomy Sunday evening, and there I sat, plopped down on the floor,  red-faced with frustration, in the eye of the chaotic tornado I call my wardrobe. Piles of shoes, coats, pants, blouses, and sweaters spilled out around me and formed themselves into mountains. My room was in a massive disarray, and my already short fume of patience was rapidly burning out. Any clothing  I  had previously bought for Winter time was far too frumpy, unflattering and had me overheated within ten seconds of wearing it. After what seemed like hours scavenging for the perfect winter outfit, I had regretfully concluded that I had nothing to wear.  I didn't know what I could possibly wear. I felt defeated, and I  resorted to google to for some winter fashion trend info.
I always look to the internet to help me or more specifically I look at models street style. I don't know why but there's something about intrigues me about models and their uniquely alluring style. It might be that they always casual, effortlessly stylish, and well put together, or perhaps it's simply because of their models, and everything they seem to wear looks couture on them. As I intently scrolled through photos of model street style clothing I couldn't help but notice one thing in common, they all had an incredible way of maintaining a stylish appearance all the meanwhile staying warm and comfy. Aspiring to master the art of street fashion like these models, I began to scrutinize each and every photo to acquire some tips.  One of the fashion items that I  repeatedly found top models sporting was comfy oversized turtleneck sweater.  Not only does this fashion item look comfortably chic but its practical in many ways. It's facile to layer and depending on the weather,  you can easily sneak in an extra layer of warmth, whether it be through a thermal or a lighter turtleneck, without it being visible. This way you can look and feel wonderful even during the chilliest of months.  Today's top models such as Taylor Hill, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner all exemplify the power of a good turtleneck.

Long, thick coats were another prominent item on the models. Mostly paired with sky-high boots and tight form hugging bottoms,  looks like these will have you making a splash in any environment. Such coats come in a variety of eye-catching colors and fabrics. Colors vary from mellow browns to the loudest blues,   allowing you to express your mood no matter the weather.   I know for the fact that one of the most persistent and frustrating fashion issues I've encountered is having a stylish outfit with no jacket to match. I've endured shivering temperatures in certain outfits, just because I was stubborn enough not to ruin my outfit with a mismatched and unflattering jacket. With these coats, wearing a coat doesn't have to be a drag. You can stay warm while enhancing a plain outfit or completing an already striking outfit.

Lastly, but definitely most eccentric item I've observed on models,  is a colorful faux fur coat.  I haven't seen many common people hitting the streets with these types of bold fur so it's a definite head turner. One of my favorite aspects of this item is how it completely steals the show. If you felt like dressing it up a bit you could wear it over a party dress and pair it with a spunky heel for a bold night out look. You could also practically wear a plain white tee with a pair of dull white pants and add a vibrant coat that completely ups your look from not to hot.  It's the lazy girls key to looking like she put more thought into her look than she truly did.  Coats like these are beyond cozy and warm with the added bonus that they're incredibly unique and versatile.

Overall, I found by carefully analyzing the street style of today's top models I was able to orchestrate a good understanding of the trendiest winter styles. Through these observations, I developed a deeper and more articulate understanding of maintaining stylish while also molding one's fashion dependant on the chilly weather. I'm sure that next time when I'm struggling to find the perfect winter outfit, I can always reference a models street style to help me out!
